The Texas Pickin' Park's 1st Annual Bluegrass Festival & Grand Jam
is now in the books. It was an unqualified success with five great
bands entertaining enthusiastic audiences at the Concert Hall. Downtown,
the courthouse square found throngs of music lovers and
instrumentalists shopping among 50 specialty dealers and trading with
each other in the Buy/Sell/Swap tent on Saturday morning. Jammers found
pickin' pals and their music filled the air into the wee hours on Friday
and Saturday nights. The workshops were popular and well-attended-- Gary
Penny had 30 up-and-coming mandolin players in his session and the
banjo, Dobro, harmonica and dulcimer students were nearly as numerous.
Jerry Scribner reported his two one-hour slow jams morphed into a 6-hour
marathon, "they wouldn't let me go!" There is so much
more to tell, but for now let it suffice to say that everyone we've
talked to had a grand time.
We want to say a great big Thank You! from the bottom
of our hearts to all who had faith in us and helped make the Festival
such a huge success - sponsors, donors and volunteers. You're the best
and we love ya.
